What on earth is a hippie wedding anyway? I seem to do a lot of them. I'm not sure who calls them hippie weddings. Usually the bride? Or is it one of their friends? Yeah, that's our Kelley - the hippie. You could insert any name there - or make that several names of brides I've married. Somehow, the grooms don't come off as hippies.
I loved getting to know Kelley by email. She was so excited, she had everything planned in her head. The dress, what the groom would wear. This was just their simple wedding before he goes off to basic training, They are planning a bigger ceremony for later but I thought this one was pretty perfect. They were married overlooking the water in Solaris Nature Park in Plainfield. The bride was completely overcome with emotion. She knew all the words to the ceremony by heart. The bride and groom's vow exchange was so heartfelt. When they did the hand ceremony at the part where it says:
These are the hands that will countless times wipe the tears from your eyes, tears of sorrow and tears of joy.
He wiped the tears of joy from her eyes.
The cake, was awesome!! They were going to save the top layer for their one year anniversary but changed their mind because it was carrot cake and they love carrot cake. The chocolate and vanilla layers were pretty yummy too!!
Shane and Kelley did something really neat. I'll post a picture of it below. It's a picture of a tree and everyone put a finger print on the tree as leaves. I think it's a great idea.
It was a simple wedding, but all the important parts were there, Lot's of love. Loving family, And, CAKE! (I used to be a pastry chef, once upon a time...)
