A soulmate is someone who has locks that fit our keys and keys to fit our locks,
When we feel safe enough to open the locks, our truest selves step out and and we can be completely and honestly who we are; we can be loved for who we are and not for who we’re pretending to be. Each unveils the best part of the other.
No matter what else goes wrong around us, with that one person we’re safe in our own paradise. Or soulmate is someone who shares our deepest longings, our sense of direction. When we’re two balloons, and together our direction is up, chances are we’ve found the right person our soulmate is the one who makes life come to life.
The only real security is not in owning or possessing, not in demanding or expecting, not in hoping even.
Security in a relationship lies neither in looking back to what was in nostalgia, nor forward to what is might be in dread or anticipation, nut living in the present relationship and accepting it as it is now.
Relationships must be like islands, one must accept them for what they are here and now, within their limits - islands, surrounded and interrupted by the sea and continually visited and abandoned by the tides.
I take your hand in mine. It is a symbolic gesture, fraught with meaning throughout centuries of time. It symbolizes friendship and I promise now to be a true and loyal friend to you. It symbolizes union and I promise to keep our union uppermost in my life. It symbolizes help and caring and I promise to be here to help you whenever and however you need me. Most of all, it symbolizes love: joyous love, total and complete. Such a love is what I feel for you. I take you hand in mine-for this hour, for this day, for this lifetime.
I want to tell you some of the reasons why I love you. I love you because you are gentle, in a world full of violence. You dare to be tender. You are not ashamed to cry and you have great empathy for all living creatures. I love you because you are optimistic. You see the good in every situation and you manage always to look for the positive and overlook the negative. I love you because you like to have fun. You aren’t afraid to act silly. You laugh and your laughter brings smiles to everyone around. I love you because you are loyal. You refuse to gossip about your fiends. I can trust you to keep my secrets. You believe in me and your belief makes it possible for me to achieve far more than I ever could otherwise. I love you in more ways than I ever hope to mention. Most of all, I love you because you are the one person with whom I can be totally myself. You have accepted me as I am. I will try, in every way possible, to make you as happy as you have made me.
Today is a day of memories. We are remembering our childhoods; we are remembering, with gratitude, all that our parents have done to prepare us to lead independent and useful lives. We remember, too, the day we met. We remember our first dates and the way our courtship progressed. Now we begin to build new kinds of memories. From this day on, our lives will fuse in a new way and our memories will be not of you and me, but of us. I promise that I will do all that I can to make you future memories happy ones.
I do not speak easily of love. Especially before an audience. Love is private and personal and not meant to be discussed casually, even with friends. But today I choose to speak publicly of my love for you. I am announcing my feelings to our families and friends. I am saying in front of all the people who are most important to both of us, "I love you, _____________ . Because a public promise seems somehow more important and more binding than a private one, I want all of theses witnesses to hear it. I promise to do all in my power to keep our love as fresh and strong as it is today. I will be faithful to you not only with my body but with my mind. I will try always to put the good of our marriage first in my life.
From this day on, our lives are intertwined. I will do all that I can to shield you from hurt and disappointment. I will never expect you to meet all of my needs. Rather, I will meet my own needs so that I can be for you a whole person.
I will nurture you when you need care. I will cheer for you when you attempt new endeavors. I will believe in you when others may doubt.
Most of all, I will love you – for today and for all of our tomorrows.
I will try never to do anything which will embarrass you for I want you always to be proud for me and of our relationship.
I will care for my body so that my good health will be an asset to our relationship. I will strive for intellectual growth so that I may be an interesting and mentally stimulation companion. I will try always to make you feel special for you are, indeed, special to me in a way that no one has ever been before. It is this uniqueness which I cherish above all else. It is what brings a smile to my lips when I think of you; it is what puts meaning in my life.
Having know you love, I would now be only a caricature of myself if I had to be without it. Your pleasure in me gives me confidence. Your love for me gives me a joy far deeper than I ever imagined possible.
I promise that I will try in every way to be worthy of your love.
I believe that we are soul mates. A love this strong can not be bound by the limitations of our physical bodies and will endure even separation by death. Therefore, I am not pledging my love until death do us part. Instead, I pledge it ofr all eternity in the belief that you and I will be together always.
We are surrounded today by the music of love. May it be only a prelude to the loving harmony of our life together.
I promise to share with you the good times – the evenings that are free for fun, the holidays when I have no obligations.
I promise to share the bad times, too – the disappointment and hurts, the secret fears I wouldn’t dare to tell anyone else. I will not be afraid to trust you with my dreams and I vow never to make fun of yours.
I will try to be supportive of whatever brings you fulfillment.
I will place a high priority on our relationship, putting you feelings above all others. Our time together will be important to me.
I acknowledge that you are not a perfect human being but neither am I and I promise to make allowances for imperfection.
I promise always to be honest with you for I believe that love grows best when communication flourishes.
I come gladly to this moment. We have already shared much of our lives and we know from experience that we get along well together.
We have lived together, enjoying physical and emotional closeness. It has not been enough.
Today I choose to make a deeper commitment to you, a legal and binding contract. It is my way of telling you that our experience together has been so good that I want it to continue for the rest of my life.
I loved you before this ceremony. I love you more because of it.
I have never loved anyone but you. You are my first love and my last. When a love is so special, so strong, so tender, it is not enough to whisper the words privately. And so today I speak them in public, for all to hear.
I love you. I have loved you from the first time we met and I will love you always. You are everything I ever hoped to find in a partner and I feel extraordinarily lucky that you agreed to marry me.
I promise to always try to be the best person that it is possible for me to become because you deserve the best.
I promise to be faithful to you. I will never knowingly deceive or hurt you.
I will try tot expand my mind and keep my body fit so I will be a person you continue to want to be with.
I want to spend the rest of my life with you.
Today is a new beginning. We are leaving behind our past lives and starting our new life together. I will leave behind as wll any preconceived ideas ofhow you shoud act.
I want our marriage to be a partnership in every way. I promise to share with you the mundane household chores as well as the excitement of stimulation ideas.
I want for you that which brings you the greatest personal fulfillment. I promise to encourage and support you as you strive to attain the finest of which you are capable.
Once only comes true love. Once only comes a feeling of empathy so strong and sure that it is an invisible lifeline between two souls.
Such a love is demonstrated when each partner puts the loved one’s happiness above all else. It shows when the permanent good of the partnership is more important than any temporary pleasure. It is manifest through loyalty, concern and a deep, abiding faith in the other person’s integrity.
Once only comes true love. Through you, it has come to me.
When problems seem overwhelming, I think of you and I gain confidence. When secret, nighttime terrors shatter my peace of mind, I remember you and I am calmed. When loneliness threatens to overtake me, I need only ask and you are there.
You give purpose to my days and joyous comfort to my nights. You are my reason for being.
I offer you today the one gift that I give to no one else: I offer you my love.
I have spent many hours searching for just the right way to say what is in my heart today. I’ve read poems and prose, thumbed through books of quotations and the thesaurus. I read of infatuation, adoration, romance and tenderness. I thought of endearment, passion, reverence and affection.
I tried to describe my feelings for you in a dozen different ways but no matter how I expressed myself, it seemed inadequate. Finally I decided there are no words that are deep enough, meaningful enough, and exciting enough to ever verbalize the way I feel.
And so, for lack of a better way, I am falling back on the simplest expression of them all.
I love you.
When I was a child, I read a lot of fairy tales. Always in these stories the hero and heroine, after discovering their love for each other, rode off into the distance and "lived happily ever after".
Just what that ever after entailed was never entirely clear to me but just as I accepted pumpkins changing into coaches, so I accepted the premise that because they were in love, the would always be happy.
I know now that happiness must come from inside myself and that no other person, no matter how beloved, can be totally responsible for making me happy.
I do not expect you to fulfill all my dreams; I ask only that you share them with me. I do not anticipate that because we are together we’ll never have any problems but I do believe that because we love each other we can solve whatever problems come along.
I believe that a true marriage is not a ceremony but an on-going commitment and I’m confident that, in the years to come, our love for each other will enrich our lives immeasurably and bring both of us great joy.
For Cinderella and Prince Charming, their wedding day was the end of the story. For us, it is only the beginning.
, I take you now to be my (husband/wife). I promise to live with you, to trust you and to cherish you. I will love you when we are apart as well as when we are together, in good times and bad, in sickness and in health. I will work with you toward our common goals and share our leisure joyfully. I pledge myself now to be ever faithful to you with my body, my mind and my heart.
I believe in the power of love. I believe that love is the single most potent force in the universe. It is the source of all joy, the unifying strength which links spirit to spirit. The capacity to love is our great chance for happiness.
There are, of course, many kinds of love and I believe it is possible to feel more than kind of the same person.
On this wonderful day, my heart overflows with feelings of love. I love my family and my friends; I love all of you who have come to witness this wedding. Most of all, I love _______. I believe so stongly in love’s great power that I am willing now to promise to spend the rest of my lifetime with him/her.
