The Unity Cocktail Ceremony
Like a unity candle…only awesomer.
Hey, Why not? I always ask a couple if they plan on drinking before their ceremony. It's not to be judgmental. I understand people drink to celebrate. I just want to know what I may or may not need to deal with at the ceremony. If you and yours are of the drinking kind - this could be for you. I got the from The Knot.
Bride & Groom have decided that they are better off together than on their own, and as family and friends, our support of their relationship will complete their marriage.
Bride & Groom will now mix a cocktail to symbolize the merging of their lives. The cocktail they have chosen is called "The Last Word." This potent, yet sweet, drink from the Prohibition Era reminds us that there will always be tough times, but there will also always be something great that survives the adversity. This drink is a classic and has stood the test of time, as will Bride & Groom love and the commitment they are making to each other today.
(pour green chartreuse into the cocktail shaker)
The green chartreuse is made from 132 different herbal extracts and packs a strong herbal punch, but its bitterness is tamed by the sweetness of the other ingredients. Like the chartreuse, Bride & Groom are each composed of so many different elements, but when they come together there is harmony and balance.
(pour maraschino liqueur into cocktail shaker)
The next ingredient is the maraschino liqueur, whose sweetness tames the strength of the chartreuse. Bride & Groom are each others' sweetness. They provide balance for each other and are better together than apart.
(pour gin into cocktail shaker)
Now we add the gin, which represents everyone here sharing this special day. Gin is the base of so many cocktails, just as family & friends are the foundation that Bride & Groom relationship is built on. Your love and support is critical to their happiness and they feel incredibly lucky to have you all here with them as they promise to spend the rest of their lives together.
(pour lime just into cocktail shaker)
The final touch is the fresh lime juice, which adds a little bite. Life will be throwing "lime juice" their way from this day forward, but that is what will keep their bond strong and compel their relationship to constantly grow and evolve.
(shake cocktail shaker)
By mixing strong green chartreuse, sweet maraschino liqueur, enduring & dependable gin and tangy lime juice together, Beth & Jason have created a strong and delicious drink - the Last Word. This drink can never be separated into its original ingredients, just as Bride & Groom can never go back to the individuals they were before they pledged to join their lives together in front of all of us today.
(strain into glass)
Bride & Groom - please take a sip of the beverage you have created together, and tell us how it tastes.
