Sports Themed Wedding Ceremony Script
This was one of the first wedding ceremonies I performed in the beginning of my career as a wedding officiant. it was for a young couple in our neighborhood. They just graduated college and were off to the east coast for grad school. The groom personalized the ceremony script with a sports theme.
Wedding Ceremony Script with a Sports Theme
Welcome! Thank you for coming to celebrate this wonderful occasion, and to witness the love which Bride and Groom have for one another. Whether you're friends or family, we are all here as one to watch Bride and Groom's public commitment to share their lives and accept each other completely; to learn how to help and understand each other; and together, travel through life.
As many of you already know, Groom introduced Bride to his passion for sports almost 6 years ago when they started dating, and together have enjoyed all that sports have to offer. Because of this, they already know a lot about marriage. Soccer, baseball, and marriage aren’t all that different! They can be loads of fun, and yet require a lot of hard work, a lot of learning, analyzing mistakes and starting over. Every day is a new and exciting game. A good game, and a good marriage – don’t just happen. It takes love to get started, and sheer determination to make it through. And in spite of all the hitting of balls, and clashing about goals, it is a wonderful experience with which we grow and fulfill an important part of who we are and who we become. For every miss at bat, there is a homerun, for every offside, there is a beautifully executed goal. Bride and Groom have visited the homes of countless sports teams over the past 6 years. Now they will build their own home team. Will it be a basketball team of 5? A baseball team of 9? A soccer team of 11? Only time will tell.
You are all here today because Bride and Groom know that you will always be their friend, and that you will always support and encourage them no matter what happens. You are here as fans, coaches and team members. Always by their side to embrace both of them and support them on their journey through life together.
Bride, I am so in love with you and promise to stand beside you through thick and thin, through good and bad, through joy and sorrow. I want to spend the rest of my life hearing your thoughts and seeing your dreams. I promise to do my best to make our lives better from this day on because I am so amazed by you. I will support you throughout your career and make that journey as easy as possible for you, whether it's proofreading your work at 3 in the morning or listening to you talk about something I could never comprehend. This is my vow to you.
Groom, I knew when I saw you that we had chemistry and now I take you to be my one true love. I promise to encourage and inspire you; laugh with you and comfort you in times of sorrow and when your team loses. I look forward to spending my life with you, caring, loving and always being there for you. I promise to be the person you can trust and the person that will always understand. I will love you unconditionally. This I vow to you.
Together, the two of you can accomplish anything.
Together, the two of you will be better than you would be alone.
Together, the two of you will share your love with the world.
Together, your love will grow into a bond too strong to break.
These rings mark the beginning of a long journey filled with wonder, surprises, laughter, tears, celebration, grief, and joy. May these rings glow in reflection of the warmth and love which flow through Bride and Groom today.
"I give this ring as my gift to you. Wear it and think of me and know that I love you."
