Mary and Fredy's Wedding Ceremony Script
Today I Marry My Best Friend
by Bertrand Russell

Today I marry my best friend.
The one I have laughed and cried with,
The one I have learned from and shared with,
The one I have chosen to support, encourage and give myself to,
Through all the days, given to us to share,
Today I marry the one I love.

The Presentation

A successful marriage is made up of two people, each putting the other before themselves and giving to that person 100% first, last, and always. However, as Mary and Fredy’s journey unfolds there will be opportunities and challenges that will strain, and perhaps even weaken, them. They may move back and forth between the seasons of their love, sometimes strong as the autumn harvest time, and sometimes tender, tentative, and fragile as the springtime shoots that brave the frost. In those times they will need the support and caring of all of you who have come to celebrate this joyous union So in the joining of these two families, I ask all of you to take a vow in their presence and in the presence of each other.

Do you pledge to honor and support their marriage? Do you pledge to be neutral and support them equally?
And will you always be there for them and embrace them with the love of family and the joy of sharing your lives with them?

“We will.”

Welcoming Words

Mary and Fredy would like to take a moment to thank you all for being here with them today. You have shared in some of their best and  worst days, and you are an irreplaceable part of their yesterdays, their today and all of their tomorrows.

We’d like to take a moment to remember those who are not here today.  We know they are here with us in spirit

Words About Love And Marriage

But what do we mean by love? When we love, we see things other people do not see. We see beneath the surface, to the qualities, which make our beloved special and unique. To see with loving eyes, is to know inner beauty. And to be loved is to be seen, and known, as we are known to no other. One who loves us, gives us a unique gift: a piece of ourselves, but a piece that only they could give us. We who love, can look at each other’s life and say, “I touched his life,” or, “I touched her life,” just as an artist might say, “I touched this canvas.” “Those brushstrokes in the corner of this magnificent mural, those are mine. I was a part of this life, and it is a part of me.” Marriage is to belong to each other through a unique and diverse collaboration, like two threads crossing in different directions, yet weaving one tapestry together. The secret of love and marriage is to be in love and in trust, to know in your hearts that you want only the best for each other. It takes dedication, to stay open to one another, to learn and grow, even when it is difficult to do so. And it takes faith, to go forward together without knowing what the future holds for you both. The true art of married life is an inner spiritual journey. It is a mutual enrichment, a give and take between two personalities, a mingling of two endowments, which diminishes neither, but enhances both. It is, ultimately, the emergence of the Highest Selves of each person. Marriage is a supreme sharing of experience, and an adventure in the most intimate of human relationships. It is the joyous union of two people whose comradeship and mutual understanding have flowered in romance. Today Bride and Groom proclaim their love and commitment to the world, and we gather here to rejoice, with and for them, in the new life they now undertake together.

Declaration on Intent/Wedding Vows

Fredy, from this day onward, do you choose Mary to be your wife, your best friend, and your only love?
To live together, play together and laugh together;
To work by her side and dream in her arms;
To fill her heart and feed her soul;
To always seek out the best in her;
Always loving her with all your heart, until the end of your forever?
If so, Say, “I do!”

Mary, from this day onward, do you choose Fredy to be your Husband, your best friend, and your only love?
To live together, play together and laugh together;
To work by his side and dream in his arms;
To fill his heart and feed his soul;
To always seek out the best in his;
Always loving his with all your heart, until the end of your forever?
If so, Say, “I do!”

Wedding Ring Exchange

The ring is an ancient symbol, so perfect and simple.
It has no beginning and has no end.
It is round like the sun, like the moon, like the eye, like arms that embrace.
It is a circle; for love that is given comes back round again.
Your rings are precious because you wear them with love.
They symbolize your commitment in marriage.
They remind you of who you are, where you’ve been, and where you’re going.
As you wear them through time, they will reflect not only who you are as individuals, but also who you are a couple.

Blessing

As you make your home together,  may you know great love together.
May your home be a place of happiness for all who enter it, a place where all are renewed in each other's company, a place for growing, understanding, and laughter.
When Shadow and darkness creep within its walls, may it still be a place of hope, strength, and love.
May those who are nearest to you be constantly enriched by the beauty and bounty of your love for one another.

Since Mary and Fredy have consented to live together in marriage, and have witnessed their vows in the presence of friends and relatives, and by the giving and receiving of rings, I now pronounce that they are husband and wife.
