Thank you for visiting my website!! My name is Reverend Victoria Meyer. I have been marrying couples in the greater Indianapolis area for the past 7 years. In that time, I have officiated over 1500 wedding ceremonies.
What does that mean? What is a Wedding Officiant?
A wedding officiant is a person that can legally marry a couple. It is a new term for many couples in Indiana. When most couples think about getting married they think, they either can go to the courthouse and get married by a Justice of the Peace or another Judge or a County Clerk. Other couples have their wedding officiated by a lawyer. In the most traditional sense, a couple is married by a member of the clergy. They will be married by a priest, minister or pastor. These are the basic ways to become legally married. These are the ways a person can become legally married in Indiana. All these people meet the legal criteria to marry a couple.
So who am I and where do I fit into what it takes to legally marry couples?
I am legally able to marry couples because I'm an ordained minister. I was ordained by the Progressive Universal Life Church in 2002. I chose to become an ordained minister because it gave me an opportunity to express who I am as an individual. I grew up very religious as a child and religion led me into a much broader view of spirituality as I got older. My personal views of God and religion led me to believe in Love. I say it just about every time I perform a wedding ceremony. "I believe the LOVE is the MOST potent force in the universe." It's something I've devoted my life to. What is love, what does it mean and how can I practice love in the world? Needless to say, marrying couples and officiating weddings fits right into what I believe as a person! I've grown to realize my true religion is LOVE. I believe in love!!
I Believe in LOVE and LOVE is my religion. What this means about me as a wedding officiant is that I respect each individual and accept you just the way you are. I believe the love encompasses all things. Because I chose to say Love is my religion it means I don't care about religion and if you even have a religion at all. I am open to all people. The fact that I am a legally ordained minister is what makes it possible for me to have a profession as a wedding officiant. I fit the legal criteria to marry people in the state of Indiana.
It is true, when I perform large, formal wedding ceremonies, I act in many ways like a minister or a pastor. But, I also serve as a professional that understands how weddings work. I am knowledgeable in how to plan a wedding ceremony, how to write a wedding ceremony script and how to make sure your wedding ceremony goes off without a hitch!
No Matter what type of wedding ceremony I'm performing I am always acting as a Wedding Officiant. When you become married you are becoming legally married. That means you are entering into a contract. You are signing a legal document. As a Wedding Officiant I understand what it involves to make sure your marriage is legal. I live in Hamilton County, Indiana. Most of the weddings I officiate are in either Marion or Hamilton county. I am familiar with both of theses clerks offices and who issues the marriage licenses. Over the past 7 years I've signed a lot of legal documents solemnizing marriages in Indiana. Over 1500!! You are welcome to contact those offices to verify this information.
That being said, I marry couples all over the state of Indiana. I travel to just about anywhere in the state and I regularly meet couples in my home or at the county clerk's office to sign marriage licenses. I've even married a couple in prison! I marry anyone! Just because I am an ordained minister it doesn't mean that I fit into the popular idea of what I clergy member is. I marry atheists!! I am independently ordained based on the idea that we have freedom of religion. To me, that means you are free to have absolutely no religion at all and a belief in God is optional. As a wedding officiant, I sign marriage licenses. That's a legal act, not a religious act. I regularly marry individuals from all walks of life. I literally marry couples from all over the world!! I've welcomed couples from all over the world in to my home to make their marriages legal. All races, creeds and sexual orientations. I perform wedding ceremonies that aren't legal, by the couples choice - as well as help couples renew their vows.
As a wedding officiant I am here to meet the needs of individuals no matter what your marriage journey is.
As I'm updating my website I'm celebrating the couples I've married by adding galleries with pictures. So many people have questions and what better way then to show you? Please visit my galleries to see pictures! You just might see someone you know or get some great ideas.
I'm also very happy to announce I am now part of the Indiana Wedding Officiants Network. I've partnered with Angel Bodenhamer of Indiana Wedding Design LLC in order meet the needs of more couples. Angel puts together great package deals with a team of officiants. Between the two of us we are happy to help make your wedding day, no matter how big or small, perfect!
