Marion County Marriage License Return
If your marriage license was issued by the Marion County Clerk, for an additional $20, we can return the license for you in person, purchase 2 certified copies, and mail them to you.  Certified copies are $4 each.  2 copies are included in this $20 fee. If you would like additional copies, we are happy to purchase them for you and mail them to you.  You can pay the additional fee to us at your wedding.

We generally return marriage licenses every Monday morning. When we have them, we will take a picture of the copies and the envelope.  We will text you the photos and let you know they are on the way.  You will generally receive them by Wednesday or Thursday.  We will confirm your address with you when we marry you to be sure.

Your completed marriage license must be returned to the clerk who issued it within 30 days.  Anyone can return a marriage license and obtain certified copies.  You can also do this by mail.  We only do this in Marion County.  Each county has its own way of issuing certified copies.

FAQ's
Can you explain the process to me?

When you come to our office, make sure you bring all the paperwork from the clerk with you.  We will sit at our desk and fill out the marriage license.  We will fill out the officiant information and then have you sign the license.  This is the legal part.  If you are in a hurry, we can say, "Do you take this person to be married?"  You say, "I do." We pronounce you married, and you are done!

If you want a ceremony, we are happy to perform a short and sweet non-religious ceremony!  You are welcome to exchange vows and rings.  Our ceremony has the traditional "I do's."  You are welcome to write your own vows and share them with each other.   If you don't have rings, that's OK. A Ring exchange is not required. We usually have ring-pops if you would like to do a traditional exchange.

Take pictures!  Many couples don't want a ceremony, but they want a picture.  We have a pink flower wall and signs for you to hold. We can take pictures with your phone, or with our phone, and text them to you.  If you have people with you, they can take pictures, or you can bring a photographer.

This whole process takes 20 minutes or less.

Your marriage license needs to be returned to the clerk who issued it.
Your marriage license needs to be returned to the clerk who issued it within 30 days.  We can return the license for you for an additional fee, provided it was issued by the Marion County Clerk.  Anyone can return a marriage license and obtain copies.
~~~~~~~~~~
How does the marriage license work?
To be legally married, you must obtain a marriage license.  Each couple must obtain their own marriage license from their county clerk.  ONLY THE COUPLE can obtain their marriage license.
Marriage License Info
~~~~~~~~~~
Our marriage license is from another county, can you still marry us?

Yes! If you are a resident of Indiana, you MUST get your marriage license from the county clerk in the county you live in.  You can then used that license to get married anywhere in Indiana.

If you are not an Indiana resident, you must obtain your marriage license from the Marion County Clerk in order to get married in our office.  Our office is in Indianapolis.  Indianapolis is in Marion Coutnty.
~~~~~~~~~~
Are you Judges or a Justice of the Peace?
No.  We are online ordained ministers which allows us to legally marry you in the State of Indiana.  We only perform civil ceremonies in our office. You cannot get married at the Marion County Clerk's office, or in most courthouses in Indiana.  We fill that gap.  Thousands of couples  have been married in our office!
~~~~~~~~~~
What is the difference between walking in and making an appointment?

We have walk-in hours when the Marion County Clerk is open and issuing marriage licenses. We also schedule appointments during those hours.  We only schedule appointments up to 90 days in advance.  If you make an appointment, we will guarantee to be there.  You must schedule an appointment online and pay in full when you book.  There are no refunds once you pay. We make our plans around scheduled appointments.  If we need to schedule family commitments, we do it around scheduled appointments.  We are committed to our walk-in hours.  It is our highest priority, but they are not guaranteed.  We update walk-in hours daily.

If you have not scheduled an appointment online and paid in advance, you do not have an appointment.
~~~~~~~~~~
If we make an appointment, can people still walk-in?
We marry one couple at a time.  There is only one couple in the office at a time. We do not have a waiting room.  There may be people outside our office waiting to get married.  If you have an appointment, we honor your appointment time.
We strongly recommend making an appointment if you are inviting people to watch you get married. We do not allow people to wait in our office if the couple is not present.  If your friends or family arrive an hour early, they will need to find another place to wait.
~~~~~~~~~~
We want privacy when we get married, and we are concerned about walk-ins.

We literally spend most of our day sitting around waiting for couples to come in and get married.  It's not usually back-to-back couples waiting to get married. Friday afternoons after 2 PM have a tendency to get busy. So keep that in mind.  If you want privacy, we recommend booking an appointment in the evening or on the weekend.  Our building is closed to the public at that time, and people can literally not walk in.
~~~~~~~~~~
How many people can we bring?
You may bring eight people with you to witness your marriage.  You are coming to our office.  It is set up for a very informal wedding.  It's fun!  However, it's not intended for a formal wedding in any way.  You are more than welcome to dress formally, but there is no aisle to walk down or anything like that. It's literally a room with eight chairs lined up next to each other along the wall.  Depending on the size of the people, you may not all fit in the chairs. I say that with all due respect - I want you to understand that we limit the number of people due to the literal size of the office.
We feel like we offer a really nice little wedding for the price. Similar services do not have space for eight witnesses, and those that do have space will charge you quite a bit more for the extra people.  We welcome your family and friends!  But we do have limits.  It's a balance to keep prices affordable.
If you want to bring more than eight people with you, you are welcome to get married outside on Monument Circle with as many people as you like.  Monument Circle Elopements are weather permitting.  If it's raining or too cold, we still only have a backup plan for 8.
We do offer mobile wedding officiant services.  Victoria can travel wherever you want to get married with as many people as you like.  The prices are very similar.  The price to get married in our office on a weekend is $150.  Victoria travels through Marion and Hamilton County for the same price.  You can get married in your home if you like!
~~~~~~~~~~
Can we bring our own officiant?
No.  We are wedding officiants.  Essentially, we are selling our services as wedding officiants, and we perform the service in our business office.  You are not renting our office.  You are getting married and leaving when your ceremony is over and you have taken pictures. It takes about 20 minutes total.
~~~~~~~~~~
Can we bring a cake or champagne?
No. Please don't.  Our office is not a wedding venue.  It's a business office.  You are not renting our office.
~~~~~~~~~~
Can we bring our dog?
We lease our office.  Our lease stipulates that no pets are allowed.  If you ask if you can bring your dog, we will ask if it is a service dog. We will ask you:

Is the dog a service animal required because of a disability?
What work or task has the dog been trained to perform?

We LOVE dogs!  Your dog is welcome to join you outside on Monument Circle.  Victoria is also very happy to meet you anywhere you would like to get married with your dog.  Sometimes couples choose to get married where they love to walk their dog!
~~~~~~~~~~
Is your office Handicap Friendly?
Circle Tower, where we lease our office, is accessible.  The building itself is over 100 years old, so there are some limitations.  A wheelchair fits through the front doors with no problem. There is an elevator. A wheelchair or scooter fits in our office.  However, our floor does not have a handicap accessible restroom.  Our access to the building at large is limited over the weekend.  We do not have access to a handicap restroom at those times.  The restroom on our floor is VERY small.
~~~~~~~~~~
Do you have a changing area?
No.  We offer a civil ceremony service, not a formal wedding service.  Most couples come in during business hours dressed casually.  You are welcome to wear anything you like.  Many couples come dressed up formally for a wedding over the weekend.  We kindly request that you come dressed for your wedding.  We have a restroom, but literally, two people do not fit in the ladies' room at one time.  There is very little space to change clothing.
~~~~~~~~~~
Do you have parking?
No.  Our building does not have a parking lot or parking garage.  You will need to find your own parking either on the street or in a local garage.
If you are coming from the Marion County Clerk, you can walk.  It is literally two blocks away.  You can park once, pick up your marriage license from the clerk, walk to our office, get married, walk back to the clerk's office, file your marriage license, get your certified copies, and be done!  Our location was chosen to do just that!
~~~~~~~~~~
Why is our date not available to schedule?
We require anyone making an appointment to schedule it online.  There are several services we offer, and they are offered at different times and at different prices.  If you follow the link for a $100 appointment, it will only show you appointments available M-F from 8:30-4:30.  If you want to get married on a weekend or evening, you will have to follow a link to the $150 or $250 service.  You may also need to scroll down to find all the appointments available. We only book UP TO 90 days in advance.  If you are trying to make an appointment MORE than 90 days in advance, it will be blocked out.
~~~~~~~~~~
Why do you only book UP TO 90 days in advance?
There are several reasons we limit how far out we will schedule a wedding.
We are a family business.  It's just the two of us performing weddings.  We schedule our lives around our business. By not booking more than 90 days out, we can better schedule our family, doctors' appointments, etc If you make an appointment, we will be there!
We don't own our office.  We lease it.  We hope to be in our office for a long time!  But we don't control the building.  We don't want to promise something we can't deliver. The building is currently under contract to be sold and turned into a hotel.  We don't know how long we will have this office.
Civil Ceremonies are very informal.  We book the majority of our civil ceremonies at the last minute, so this affects very few couples.  Couples do change their plans.  That's OK.  We get it.  But we plan our lives around your appointment.  If you cancel, it affects our business and our lives.
~~~~~~~~~~
NO REFUNDS!
If you choose to make an appointment in advance, we require payment in full with no refunds.  You can walk into our office and get married without an appointment, so you don't  NEED to make an appointment just to have a simple civil ceremony.  If you choose to make an appointment, your time is booked.  If you cancel, we lose the time we could have had available. Not just to marry another couple, but we could have planned other things, like driving our kids around and doing other important things that need to be done.

You need to check the box and agree to these terms and conditions when you make your appointment online.  You are entering into a legal contract when you make your payment.
~~~~~~~~~~
Can we walk-in on a weekend?
No.  You literally can't.  Circle Tower - our office building - is open to the public Monday-Friday from 8-5.  It is locked at all other times.  Even if you can get into the lobby, you can't get anywhere in the elevator without a key.  We literally need to let you in the building and bring you up to our office personally.
Our walk-in hours are based on the times the Marion County Clerk is open and issuing marriage licenses.  We are literally there waiting for people who need a wedding officiant.  We are committed to our walk-in hours.  If we don't have a pre-paid appointment scheduled, there is no reason for us to be in the office when the clerk is closed.
Payment in full is required for appointments because we need to drive to the office, pay for gas, and pay for parking. It costs us money to marry you.  After 15 years in business, we have learned a few lessons the hard way.
~~~~~~~~~~
Can we reschedule?
You can reschedule within reason.

If you made an appointment to get married during walk-in hours and are running early or late, we can easily accommodate that.  If you give us at least 24 hours' notice, you can reschedule to a different day.  If you made an appointment to get married during walk-in hours and you need to reschedule at the last minute, you can utilize our walk-in hours and not have to pay again.

Generally, since we only book 90 days in advance, you can not re-book more than 90 days in advance.  If you booked 60 days in advance and need to reschedule to a later date, you have 30 days left to reschedule.  We already make our plans 60 days out to accommodate your appointment. You can always schedule another appointment and pay again.
~~~~~~~~~~
Can we choose our ceremony?
No.  You can choose if you want a ceremony or not, but you cannot choose a ceremony script.  We use a very simple, non-religious ceremony we customize in the moment for the couple.  It's romantic, it's heartfelt. We are happy to accommodate pronouns or gender-neutral verbiage upon request.  If you don't speak a lot of English, we will abbreviate your ceremony to adjust.
If you write your own vows to share with each other, you are welcome to do that!
If you want a specific ceremony, you can book a wedding in another location and Victoria is happy to come to you and perform just about any ceremony you want.
WE DO NOT PERFORM CHRISTIAN CEREMONIES IN OUR OFFICE!
~~~~~~~~~~
Can we request an particular officiant?
No.  Generally, Peter is in the office every day during the week. We share weekend appointments. If, for some reason, Peter cannot be there, Victoria will be there. Victoria answers all the phone calls, emails, and texts.  Victoria travels to marry couples at their location.  We also have family responsibilities we have to honor as a priority.

We cannot guarantee you will have a male officiant.

We cannot change our schedule, so Victoria is in the office for you.

If you want Victoria to marry you, you can book a small wedding at your location, and she is happy to come marry you there. There are many great locations to get married that aren't our office.

Peter does not perform weddings anywhere else but our office and outside our office on Monument Circle.  He never performs any Christian ceremony at all.
~~~~~~~~~~
Do you speak Spanish?
No.  But we are still very happy to marry you!  We marry couples from all over the world, and we are happy to do it!  Peter was born and raised in Germany.  English is his second language. He's a naturalized citizen. We have lived in Germany together.  We very much understand language barriers! We do our best to communicate with everyone.  You are welcome to bring people to help interpret for you.
~~~~~~~~~~
Are photos included?
We are professional wedding officiants.  We are NOT professional photographers.  We are happy to use a phone to take pictures for you.  We have a flower wall backdrop and signs to hold that are like a photo booth experience.  You can take pictures, have your witnesses take pictures, or hire a professional photographer.   We have a list of photographers we've worked with in the past.  You can reach out to them directly.

Diversity Statement
Marry Me In Indy celebrates the diversity of the human race. We are open to marrying anyone. Every race, creed, skin color, nationality, sexual orientation, or neuro-diversity. All are welcome here!  Our goal is to meet each couple where they are and help them have a positive wedding experience. We approach every wedding with an open mind - We don’t know anything about you until you tell us, and that’s only if you choose to tell us. Wedding ceremony scripts have been written for years for brides and grooms. Some couples are choosing to forego traditional gender roles altogether and are using the terms spouse or partner. If you have made the choice to use non-traditional pronouns, please let me know, and we will be happy to honor your preferences.   Any wedding ceremony script can be changed to reflect your personal preferences. The only second language we speak is German, but we do our best to communicate with everyone.
